I had so much fun making the gift ensemble for my Papertrey release this month! I made some jar cookies (not this particular one) last year for a craft fair and they sold really well. I thought it would make such a cute gift paired with some baking essentials like measuring cups & spoons, maybe a pretty mixing bowl to hold it all, and a cute rubber spatula (you can get them in so many colors now). That is exactly what I plan to do with this particular jar cookie. I got the recipe from a Taste of Home Christmas cookbook my mom let me borrow, it has some fabulous stuff in it for the holidays. The recipe is called "Christmas Cookies" and it is a yummy oatmeal, cranberry, white chocolate chip cookie. I made a batch while I put together this jar and they are delicious.
After putting the jar together (which incidentally I love, with all the variations in color and texture), I needed to add the directions, so I formatted them to fit a circle Nestabilities and printed them out on Vintage Cream cardstock. Then I stamped the circle with one of the snowflakes from Rustic Snowflakes in Aqua Mist and added a mat in Aqua Mist, I ended up having to cut the Aqua Mist mat with my Fiskars circle cutter not with my Nestabilities (I don't have all the circles).
To cover the lid, I used some inexpensive off white fabric that I got at WalMart for $1 for a whole yard. I stamped it with the same snowflake in Dark Chocolate ink and then I sponged the edges of the circle with the same ink. One note about cutting out dircles of fabric to fit the top and overhang to cover the lid, I again had to use my Fiskars circle cutter to get it big enough and it worked pretty good after a bit of trial and error. I discovered that you should tack the edges of the fabric piece down while cutting or the fabric will move and the circle will be really jagged. I tied a piece of Aqua Mist twill around the fabric and added a little Spellbinders tag that was stamped with "Cookies from a Jar" from last months Spooky Sweets II set. I also added a little embellishment to the front of the jar with a snowflake, cut with the plain yellow Marvy circle punch (1 1/2 inches) and matted with a small circle Nestability. A cute little brown button completed the look.
I decided the recipient of the gift might want to make more cookies so I put together a cute little recipe card. I cut it out from the largest circle Nestability to create the clamshell card (Mish Wooderson showed these a while back). The recipe is on the inside, ingredients on one side, directions on the other.
One more thing...I added a little kraft coffee bag (from PTI of course) filled with the cookies all baked up so the recipient could "sample" them before baking. Just stamped the snowflakes randomly and added the same little snowflake "medallion" as on the jar. I like how it ties everything together. I can't wait to give this little ensemble to a friend this Christmas....I'll make new cookies though:)!!!
Thanks for visiting, I hope this gets you more excited for the new Papertrey release. I absolutely LOVE these snowflakes and will definitely be using them over and over this year. Have a great weekend!!
